What drew you to CrossFit? I discovered CrossFit towards the end of 2005. At the time, I was doing kickboxing and traditional lifting in a local “Globo” gym. CrossFit gave me a more intense and an all around better workout than anything that I had ever done. My first CrossFit WOD was a scaled form of “Kelly.” It kicked my butt and I fell in love with it.

What do you like most about CrossFit? I love that it doesn’t specialize in one thing. It focuses on everything (Cardio Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Agility, Balance, Coordination, and Accuracy). No two days are the same, it’s never boring, and what you put into your workout is what you get out. Plus, you become insanely good at counting.

What are your interests outside of CrossFit? Spending time with my family and friends, watching movies, driving around in my jeep with the top down and the doors off, and continuing my journey of higher learning.

Professional and coaching experience: I’ve been coaching CrossFit since February 2012.

What drew you to CrossFit? I played rugby in college and was drawn to CrossFit as a way to train for my sport.

What do you like most about CrossFit? CrossFit is an all-inclusive and an amazingly supportive community, it keeps me coming back not only for the fitness aspect but also for all of the extraordinary people.

What are your interests outside of CrossFit? Outside of CrossFit I enjoy pick-up games of any variety, cooking, and spending time with my CrossFit family.

Professional and coaching experience: I starting coaching rugby at the University of Iowa where I was attending college. Shortly after moving to Crystal Lake and joining the CrossFit community here, I knew I wanted to become a CrossFit coach. I obtained my Level 1 certification in August of 2013 after being a coaching apprentice for about six months. I have been coaching and loving it ever since.

Athletic experience: Growing up I played softball, basketball, volleyball and participated in track. In college I was on the rugby team for four years and started competing in a variety of CrossFit competitions over the last two years.

What drew you to CrossFit? I was just checking it out because my friend wanted to check it out and from there I didn’t stop and didn’t even realize what CrossFit was until 6 months into doing it.

What do you like most about CrossFit? Burpees… and… watching others do burpees.

What are your interests outside of CrossFit? Is there anything else other than CrossFit?

Why do you coach? I like to help others become the best they can be. While also getting a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment when training other people and seeing them better themselves.

Athletic experience: Before CrossFit I was a meat head at a traditional gym for two years. My biggest accomplishment was curling 55 lb dumbbells in each hand. I also was a boxer and still play soccer.

What drew you to CrossFit? My daughter bugged me until I tried it. I had a crazy misconception that CrossFit was just for the elite athlete. I was dead wrong. When she finally got me to try it I discovered it was for everyone (all ages, all shapes and all fitness levels) and I have not stopped since. I liked it so much I now own a box.

What do you like most about CrossFit? I have always loved to compete with others and myself and I enjoy working out. CrossFit allows me to do both.

What are your interests outside of CrossFit? I have many other interests. Doing anything competitive. Chasing around my grandkids. I run a volleyball club called Club W and coach high school volleyball. I also enjoy driving my lovely bride of 33 years crazy.

Professional and coaching experience: Professional experiences I have had many. I have been a trader on the floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange, farmer, General Manager of a minor league baseball team, Operating Director of the Badger Region Volleyball Association and collegiate volleyball coach.

Athletic experience: I have been involved with sports my entire life from playing, to coaching, to overseeing large membership organizations. Athletics and staying fit has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.

What drew you to CrossFit? Sarah, Ethan and I used to ride our bikes downtown for pizza at Georgio’s, one time we were in there and it was on the tv. I had never heard of it before, all I kept saying was what is this? The winter before I started was long and cold, I was tired of being a lump of dough, CrossFit had come up in a conversation and I decided to look into it. June 14, 2014 I started onramp, I haven’t looked back.

What do you like most about CrossFit? I love the intensity. CrossFit is going to be exactly what you need it to be be based on what you put into it. I could never do what we do in CF if I had to figure it out on my own.

What are your interests outside of CrossFit? It’s kinda boring, but I really like plants, and fish.

Professional and coaching experience: I coached U10 soccer with a few friends while in High School and when Ethan was little, and formerly was P.S.I.A. Level 1 Alpine Ski Instructor. I received my CF L1 in October 2017, and just received my Aerobic Capacity certificate. Professionally, I have been in the horticulture industry for 20 years and have held several certifications and endorsements; and I teach as an adjunct at MCC one semester a year.

Athletic experience: I was an active kid, but didn’t do a lot of organized sports. I played some soccer in high school and ran track. I did competitive intramurals in college, and Ultimate, I’ve played a lot of Ultimate. Running was important to me for a long time, but nothing has ever stuck like CrossFit.
