You can google many magical remedies for almost anything nowadays. You will get countless pages of “This One X Will Fix Your Y Instantly” or “The Secret Ritual Dinosaurs Did To Get Huge” and so on. Some may produce some noticeable results in a short period of time, but quickly plateau and eventually bounce you back to square 1 (sometimes even square 0). While others won’t even produce any results at all, but we convince ourselves that we must be doing something wrong, because the magical solution can’t be flawed, we are the problem. Even though most of us are aware that get rich quick schemes aren’t reliable solutions to our financial problems, we are still hopping on the next pyramid that comes along, we hope this will be the one.
The same is true for our health and fitness. We’ve tried “everything”! Did the Zumba, the Pilates, even the “Crossfit”! We did the Zone diet, Paleo diet, Gummy Bears diet, etc. We saw some initial promising results, but after a few weeks or months our progress faded and our motivation disappeared. Back to square one, for the fifth time this year. We even begin to think that there is no solution for us, our genetics just don’t have the fitness in them that all those people who are naturally healthy and fit have. But this is just not true. We are all meant to be healthy and enjoy high quality lives, we just need the proper guidance to get there. The guidance that Google and most Instagram celebrities have failed to provide for us.
So how do we break the cycle? Is there an actual ONE thing we can do to begin the path towards sustainable health and fitness? There is. The one thing you must do to begin mastering your fitness is to seek guidance. Seek guidance from someone who has already achieved what you are trying to achieve. Let’s be clear though, your fellow gym bro who can curl 100# dumbbells and bench above 300# for reps, is not necessarily a qualified guide. Who helped him/her get to where they are today? That will be a better guide for you, because what worked for him might not work for you; this is where your guide makes the difference.
When we have new athletes walk into Crossfit Phoenix 815, the first thing we do is listen to them. Ask about their goals, what have they done in the past to achieve them? What has worked? What hasn’t? Look for patterns and provide a clear path forward to achieve the desired outcome. The desired outcome is more often than not:
1). Weight Loss
2). Muscle Building
3). Increased Energy
4). Improved Self-Esteem
5). Lifestyle Improvement
Among other amazing goals, that we have happily helped our athletes achieve.
A common Crossfit slogan that you’ll find to be true is, “Come for the fitness, stay for the community.” Being part of something is an added bonus to becoming fitter and healthier. As Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher stated, “The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.” The first step in any journey that you wish to embark on and find sustainable long term results will begin with a proper mentor, guide, coach, sensei, etc. Find a qualified guide and give them the opportunity to help you achieve your goals. This is the true ONE thing you can do to achieve your goals.
